Can the mission look at the decision again?

The FAQ page of the German Missions in Nigeria says: "Unfortunately, we cannot reconsider or re-evaluate visa decisions. All decisions are final." The FAQ answer does not name a visa type.

The same answer continues: if you believe the rejection was incorrect, you may file a legal appeal at the competent administrative court in Germany. The relevant contact details are included in your rejection letter.

The pages we read do not say how an appeal works, what the deadline is, or how long it takes. They also do not say whether you can apply again, or when. Your rejection letter is the place to start, and the court named in it is the one to ask.

How do you get your blocked account money released?

The German Missions in Nigeria have a page on releasing a blocked account (Sperrkonto, the German account that holds your funds). It says a formally rejected application comes with a rejection letter. That letter is usually sufficient for the bank to release your account or for the university to (partially) refund your tuition fees.

If the bank or university doesn't accept the rejection letter, the FAQ page says the consulate general can issue an informal email confirming that you have no ongoing application. It says you may try to use this message to request the release of your funds.

The same FAQ page offers that informal email if you cancelled your application, or withdrew due to incomplete documentation, and did not receive a formal rejection letter.

The release page also lists a consular declaration. The fee for this service is 36 EUR, payable in Naira. That page does not name a visa type and also covers university tuition refunds, so it is not specific to Opportunity Card applicants. The FAQ puts this step after the informal email is not accepted.

Both pages say: "We cannot contact the bank or university on your behalf."

What do two Opportunity Card checklist items say?

The Lagos Opportunity Card checklist (status June 2026) has these two lines. The pages we read do not link either one to any particular refusal, and neither is presented as a refusal reason.

Item 9 reads: "Proof of recent job/vocational training place search in Germany". The Lagos Opportunity Card page words it as proof of recent job place search in Germany, for example email correspondence regarding applications, job offers, agency enquiries, etc.

On the Lagos Opportunity Card page, the line 'Proof of adequate financial means' gives a minimum amount of EUR 1,091 for each month.

What happens with false or forged documents?

The Opportunity Card page of the German Missions in Nigeria says that any visa application submitted with forged documents or documents containing false information will be immediately and automatically rejected.

It adds that the applicant will be entered into a warning database, which will also negatively affect any subsequent visa applications. The applicant will also be issued a Schengen-wide entry ban.
