How do I book a German student visa appointment in Lagos, Nigeria?
Short answer
To book a German student visa appointment in Nigeria, the German Consulate General in Lagos says to apply online first in the Consular Services Portal and get feedback on your documents. Then use the booking link you receive. Booking is free, and you pay the visa fee at the appointment. Check the Lagos page for the current steps.

What are the steps?
The Lagos page for university studies starts you online, in the Consular Services Portal (the Federal Foreign Office's online visa application site). You fill in the form and upload your documents, and they're checked for completeness.
Next comes feedback on whether your documents are complete and were submitted successfully. Only after that do you receive the link to book an appointment at the visa section.
The same page says the German Consulate works with the service provider VFS to take in applications for study purposes.
- 01Fill in your application and upload your documents in the portal.
- 02Wait for the feedback on whether your documents are complete.
- 03Use the booking link you receive to book your appointment.
- 04Go to the appointment.
What happens at the appointment?
At the appointment, your identity and original documents are checked and you have a short interview. Your fingerprints and photo are recorded, and you pay the fee.
The Lagos page says the fee is paid at the current exchange rate of the German mission in Nigerian Naira, in cash or via POS.
Bring everything in full. The Lagos page says documents sent in advance cannot be considered, and incomplete or unsorted applications are not accepted.
It asks for originals and copies, not stapled. Copies must be A4 and black and white; colour copies are not accepted.
The Lagos University studies page asks for 2 biometric photos, not older than 6 months, 3.5 x 4.5 cm, on a uniform white background, not glued or stapled to the form. The June 2026 Consulate General sorting list says 1 biometric photograph. The two pages differ, so check the current list before you print.
What are the booking rules?
- Booking is free of charge.
- Each applicant needs their own appointment. If you apply with children, each child needs one too.
- Latecomers are not admitted.
- The consulate says requests for special appointments have no chance of success.
- The consulate does not encourage bookings through agencies or others who charge a fee. It says you are held responsible for any misuse in your name, and if the booking system is misused, the applicant will be blocked and no further bookings will be possible.
What if you book the wrong category?
Book in the wrong category and you are not admitted; you must book a new, correct appointment. The visa section does not change incorrect bookings, so you cancel the wrong one and book again. The Lagos FAQ says the same.
One category to check first: the Lagos FAQ says the A-List now corresponds to the portal category "Students with Specific Qualifications". It tells you to read the student section of the website to see if you qualify before you choose.
The confirmation email has a cancellation link. The consulate asks you to cancel if you cannot attend.
Can you speed it up?
The Lagos FAQ says the consulate does not offer expedited processing. It also says the waiting list is processed in chronological order and your spot cannot be prioritised or fast-tracked.
The booking page says applicants who registered earlier and already have a registration number do not need a portal account. They get their appointment when it is their turn, and portal applicants are served once everyone on that list has an appointment. The page puts this in its general online-application section and does not say which visa types it covers, so check the Lagos page for how it applies to students.
Check the Lagos page before you plan around any date. The Lagos FAQ gives no student-specific waiting time.
Reading the answer is the easy part. Say it out loud.
The officer will ask about this. Answer in your own words, then read what your answer missed. Your first practice interview is free.
