I am on the Lagos student visa waiting list, but the portal also asks me to apply. Which one counts?
Short answer
If you are already on the Lagos student visa waiting list, do not reapply on the Consular Services Portal (the online visa application site). The German Missions in Nigeria FAQ says to wait for your appointment, because only new applicants should use the portal.

What if you are already on the waiting list?
The Lagos FAQ takes this exact question: 'I applied to the student waiting list. Should I reapply on the Consular Services Portal?' Its answer is no. Wait for your appointment, because only new applicants should use the portal.
The waiting list is processed in chronological order. Appointments are assigned as capacity allows. The Consulate says it cannot prioritise or fast-track your spot.
The FAQ answer on waiting-list delays says only that 'waiting times may be long'. We found no official waiting-time figure for student applicants.
Requests for special appointments have no chance of success, according to the general information on the Lagos booking page.
What do new applicants do?
New student applicants apply online through the Consular Services Portal. You fill in the form and upload your documents. Once your details and documents pass a completeness check, you receive the link to book an appointment.
At the appointment, staff check your identity and original documents and hold a short interview. They also take your fingerprints and photo, and you pay the fee.
The A-List is now the portal category "Students with Specific Qualifications". The FAQ says to read the student section on the Lagos website to see if you qualify, then choose the correct category in your application.
What does the booking page say about waiting-list and portal applicants?
The booking page says: "Once all applicants from the waiting list have received an appointment, applicants who have registered themselves on the Foreign Portal will receive an appointment."
That paragraph sits in the page's general online-application section for national visas. It does not name students. Read the Lagos booking page yourself before you rely on it. The consulate's FAQ does not repeat this rule for students.

What happens if you make a booking mistake?
- Wrong category or wrong details: the Consulate cannot change it. You must cancel the appointment and book a new one. The booking page adds that you are not admitted with a booking in the wrong category.
- Several appointments in different categories: only one is kept. The others are deleted without prior notice. To keep a specific category, cancel the others yourself.
- Deleted the confirmation email: your waiting list registration stays valid, unless you used the cancellation link. If you did cancel, you must register again.
- Clicked the cancellation link by mistake: reapply via the "appointment portal", as the FAQ puts it (the FAQ does not say whether that is the booking system or the Consular Services Portal). The Consulate cannot restore cancelled appointments or rebook them for you.
Does booking cost anything?
No. Booking an appointment is free of charge, says the Lagos booking page. The fee is paid at the appointment (the page gives no amount).
