How much is the German student visa fee in Nigeria and Ghana (naira or cedis), and who is exempt?
Short answer
The German student visa fee is EUR 75 at the German Missions in Nigeria (Lagos and Abuja) and at the German Embassy in Accra. You pay in naira or cedis at the mission's current exchange rate, so the local amount changes. The Nigeria missions waive the fee for people on a scholarship from public funds. 13

How much is the fee?
The German Missions in Nigeria say the fee for a national visa (for longer stays) is EUR 75. The German Embassy in Accra lists a visa fee of EUR 75.00 on its student visa page.
Both missions set the fee in euros. We don't give a naira or cedi figure here, because the amount you pay depends on the mission's current exchange rate.
How do you pay in naira or cedis?
Both the Nigeria page and the Accra page say you pay at the mission's current exchange rate. If you're budgeting, check the page again close to your date or ask the mission.
- Lagos and Abuja: in Nigerian naira, in cash or by POS, at the current exchange rate of the German mission.
- Accra: in cash in Ghana cedis (GHS) at the Embassy's current exchange rate, or by credit card.
When do you pay, and can you get it back?
You pay at your visa appointment, not when you book. The Nigeria and Accra pages both describe the same visit. Staff check your identity and original documents, you have a short interview, your fingerprints and photo are taken, and you pay the fee.
The German Missions in Nigeria say the processing fee is not refundable if the visa is rejected. The Accra student visa page does not say anything about refunds.
Who doesn't pay?
The German Missions in Nigeria list a fee waiver for a national visa for foreign nationals receiving a scholarship from public funds during their stay in Germany. It also covers their spouse or partner and minor children, as long as they are covered by the funding.
The page says "public funds" and doesn't name any scholarship. If you aren't sure your scholarship counts, ask the mission before your appointment.
The Accra student visa page lists the EUR 75 fee and does not mention a waiver. We haven't found Accra's rule on scholarship holders in the sources we checked.
